Complementary test facilities

In addition to THeoREM's major test facilities, Ifremer and Centrale Nantes have some smaller-scale facilities for testing and analysis.

According to the testing methodology adopted, these can be accessed via THeoREM.

Shallow water tank

This Centrale Nantes tank measures 20m x 9.5m x 1m. Suspended above it are two moveable motorised footbridges, which are used to install instruments or equipment. It is also equipped with a flap-type monodirectional wavemaker.

ICI Supercomputer

The ICI supercomputer, installed at Centrale Nantes in 2015, is an high performance computing machine with 6000 cores. Through its simulation software it is possible, for example, to improve the efficiency of on- or off-shore wind farms, the behaviour of composite materials, the operation of turbines, etc.

Marine Calculation and Data Centre

The DATARMOR supercomputer, located at Ifremer in Brittany, is part of the Marine  Calculation and Data Centre (PCDM), in which a large number of partners are involved:  Ifremer, SHOM, IUEM / UBO, CNRS, ENSTA Bretagne, Ecole Navale, IRD, CEREMA and the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique economic development cluster. DATARMOR has 7 petabytes of data storage capacity and over 11000 cores.

DATARMOR has the capacity to meet the challenges of Big Data, in particular the processing of a very large volumes of heterogeneous data. This opens up new research perspectives for researchers, greater synergy between data processing and interpretation to extract new information, and improved forecasting models.

Recirculating Canal

This canal, located on the Centrale Nantes campus, has a test vein of 2m wide and about 10m long. Part of the test vein is equipped with glass side walls (1.6 m wide), allowing visual observation of the flow as well as measurement, by laser velocimetry for example, of fluid velocities.
